1What is AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)?
AEO is optimizing your content so that search engines that give a direct answer use your page as the source. Think of Google's AI Overviews, featured snippets, "People also ask" and voice assistants.
The core idea is simple: ask the question, give a short and complete answer right away, and then expand on it. You can read how to do that in practice under featured snippets and AI Overviews.
2How do I get into Google's AI Overview?
For AI Overviews, Google picks sources that already rank well and also contain a clear, factual answer. You improve your chances with:
- The question as a heading, the answer directly below it in 40 to 60 words.
- Lists and steps for process questions ("how", "what steps").
- Structured data (FAQ, product and article schema) so Google understands your content better.
- A strong position in the regular results, because AI Overviews draw mainly from the top 10.

3How do I get a featured snippet?
A featured snippet is the highlighted answer box at the top of the results. Google usually picks a page for it that's already on page 1.
- Find keywords that already show a snippet and where you're in the top 10.
- Write an answer in the format Google already shows: a paragraph, a numbered list or a table.
- Put that answer directly below a heading that contains the question word for word.
Snippets are also an excellent way to improve your CTR.
4How do I get into "People also ask"?
"People also ask" shows questions related to the search query. To get in, you need to answer those questions literally. Collect them by googling your most important keywords and writing down the questions.
Then work them into short FAQ blocks on your collection pages and in your articles, each with a heading phrased as a question and a two- to three-sentence answer. Add FAQ schema. This article is built the same way: every heading is a question people actually ask.
5What is the difference between SEO, GEO and AEO?
- SEO (Search Engine Optimization): ranking as high as possible in the regular search results of Google and Bing. Goal: clicks.
- GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): getting mentioned and recommended in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Goal: mentions. See what GEO is.
- AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): being the source of direct answers, such as AI Overviews and featured snippets. Goal: being the answer. See what AEO is.
They overlap heavily. The same good, structured content works for all three. That's why Rankbird treats them as one approach instead of three separate projects.
