Platform-specific answers for Shopify and WordPress stores: from collection pages to the right apps and automatic publishing.

1How do I improve the SEO of my Shopify store?

Shopify handles the technical basics well, but the rest is up to you. These are the improvements with the most impact:

  • Collection pages. Give every collection a unique title, meta description and a short introductory text above or below the products. Covered in detail in optimizing collection pages.
  • Product pages. Write your own descriptions instead of using supplier copy, and fill in the alt text for your images.
  • URL structure. Shopify puts /collections/ and /products/ in your URLs; that's fine. Do watch out for duplicate product URLs via collections, and make sure internal links point to the canonical URL.
  • Blog. Use Shopify's built-in blog for content that answers shoppers' questions and links back to your collections.
  • Speed. Remove apps you don't use; every app adds scripts.

2What is the best SEO app for Shopify?

That depends on what you're looking for. Broadly speaking, there are three kinds of apps:

  • Technical apps that manage meta tags, alt text and redirects. Handy, but they don't write content.
  • Analysis apps that show you what's wrong, but leave the work to you.
  • Content and growth platforms that pick keywords, write articles and publish them.

The Rankbird Shopify App falls into that last category: it plans based on your own Search Console data, writes articles that link to your collections and publishes them straight to your store. You approve everything before it goes live. It also measures whether AI search engines mention you; see how to measure whether AI mentions your brand.

3How do I optimize collection pages in Shopify?

For most webshops, collection pages are the pages with the highest purchase intent. Yet often they contain nothing but a product grid.

  • One keyword per collection. "Men's linen shirts" instead of "Summer".
  • A short intro above the products (two to three sentences) and a longer text below the products with answers to frequently asked questions.
  • Edit the title and meta description under 'Search engine listing' in the collection settings.
  • Internal links from blogs and related collections. See blogs that link to your products.
  • An FAQ block at the bottom with questions from "People also ask". That also helps with AI Overviews.

4Is Shopify good for SEO?

Yes. Shopify is technically solid: fast hosting, an automatic sitemap, SSL and a clean basic structure. There are a few limitations, such as the fixed URL structure with /collections/ and /products/, and limited control over robots.txt in older themes. In practice, those are rarely the reason a store doesn't rank.

What makes the difference is content and structure, not the platform. A Shopify store with strong collection copy and a knowledge base almost always beats a technically perfect site with no content.

5How do you do SEO for WooCommerce?

WooCommerce runs on WordPress and gives you more freedom than Shopify, but also more responsibility.

  • Hosting and speed. Choose good hosting and limit the number of plugins. See a fast WordPress site.
  • Treat product categories like collections: unique copy, their own keyword, internal links.
  • Set permalinks to be short and descriptive, and consider shortening the /product-category/ base.
  • Schema for products, prices and reviews, so you can get rich results.
  • A blog that answers questions and links to your categories.

6Which SEO tool works with WordPress and WooCommerce?

For the technical basics (meta titles, sitemaps, schema), most WordPress sites use an SEO plugin. That's a good start, but a plugin like that won't tell you what to write or which opportunities you're missing.

The Rankbird WordPress integration fills that gap: it picks topics based on your Search Console data, writes articles and publishes them directly as a post or page, including in WooCommerce stores. Also read how to publish blogs automatically.

7How can I publish blogs automatically in Shopify or WordPress?

There are two ways. The first is scheduling: you write the articles yourself and queue them up with a publish date. That saves clicks, but not the writing.

The second is a platform that takes over the whole process: choosing topics, writing, adding internal links and publishing. With Rankbird you get a batch of articles each quarter; you approve them in one go and they appear on schedule on your Shopify blog or WordPress site. If you'd rather not review anything, you can turn on automatic publishing.

One important point, though: automatic doesn't mean unchecked. Google judges content on its quality, not on how it was made. Read whether AI content is OK for SEO.
